Without (2001)
It began as an attempt to honor my maternal grandmother and to tell her story as a woman who I greatly admired and deeply missed. Quietly it evolved into a tale of matriarchy in the absence of fathers, grandfathers and other male relatives. These images reference the strength and determination of the women who raised me and explores domesticity, ritual, womanhood and what it’s like walking in the shadows and footsteps of the great women who molded me in their image.
